Meet James Hood
the artist behind Beautifica and sister show Mesmerica...
James Hood is renowned as a vital and versatile musical pioneer - especially with his work on the PanART hang, a uniquely mesmeric melodic instrument, and for his collaborations with international animation artists.
His lengthy and varied musical resumé includes playing drums in The Pretenders, an ongoing two-decades-plus run as mastermind of the visionary ambient/electronica act Moodswings, and an expansive array of production and soundtrack projects.
What is BEAUTIFICA?
Beautifica is a mindblowing 360 immersive journey through worlds real and imaginary, designed to be a delight for the senses and to leave you with a new appreciation for life.
This family-friendly show is suitable for all ages 6+ and will leave you grinning ear to ear.
How do I book tickets?

A limited number of seats are available each performance, so to avoid disappointment please book your Beautifica tickets early, especially if booking groups.

How do I contact the Box Office?

All tickets are 100% refundable up to 30 days of the date of your event.
Our Customer Service Team aim to reply within 5 hours between the hours of 10am to 10pm (PT).
Is the show suitable for guests who are prone to seizures or motion sickness?
There are no strobe lights used in the production but there are some fast image and light transitions, so we would advise caution for those who suffer from seizures. Equally, while the vast majority of our patrons have an amazing time with no issues, a small minority who are very susceptible to motion sickness find immersive entertainment slightly uncomfortable, so we would advise caution if you fall into this camp.
Is the show suitable for autistic people?
We have found that autistic people LOVE our shows! Please note the venue is dark and there is surround sound. We advise sitting at the end of a row if you think a quick exit might be required. Our on-site staff will assist if you alert them at check-in.
Show Times & Seating Schedule
- Doors to the lobby open for check-in 30 minutes before your show start time (except Fri 4pm and Sat 5.30pm shows, lobby doors open 15 mins before)
- VIPs are invited to choose their seats in the theater 15 minutes before show time.
Please note: - We recommend arriving during the 30-minute check-in window. Guests arriving earlier will be asked to return during the check-in window.
- Seats are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Arriving during the check-in window increases your chances of getting your preferred seat!
- Latecomers will not be admitted.
- Concessions are not available during the event. Only water is currently allowed in the planetarium.

The Orange Coast College Planetarium
Explore the Universe in the Mary Lynn Bergman-Rallis Dome Theater where you will be surrounded by the stars in our 50-foot, 125 seat theater Built in a spiral galaxy shape, mimicking the shape of our own Milky Way, the seventy-foot-diameter dome peeks from the center of the galaxy and evokes the curiosity of all who walk past the structure.
The Planetarium has unique features to serve all of its travelers: State-of-the-art Dome Theater Foucault Pendulum Interactive science exhibit hall NOAA Science on a Sphere

DIRECTIONS
OCC Lot E, Merrimac Way, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, United States;
- Directions From the 405 (San Diego) Freeway
- In Costa Mesa, exit Fairview Road, South.
- Proceed South on Fairview for just under 1.5 miles to Merrimac Way.
- Turn right (West) on Merrimac.
- Orange Coast College is now on your right.
- Proceed West on Merrimac approximately 1/3 of a mile to the Lot E entrance.
- Turn right into Lot E and proceed towards the Library.
**Apple Maps has been known to give sub-par directions. We recommend using Google Maps**
Parking
Parking and dropoff for the planetarium are located in Parking Lot E, off of Merrimac Way. Head for the walkway directly between the Lewis Center for Applied Science and the Library. The Planetarium will be directly ahead.
Parking costs $5 per day, and parking permits can be purchased at the kiosk on campus, through the website passportparking.com or through the Passport Parking app.
